Description
Extremely rare Brilhart 3-band "AL" ligature with metal plate "B" screws, AND a matching Arnold Brillhart Ebolin mouthpiece, a cream colored cap, and even a Brilhart reed!Ligature: Perhaps the most desirable vintage ligature of all, this AL size fits many hard rubber alto saxophone mouthpieces and as such is the most sought after 3-band Brilhart size, especially with this super rare combination of metal reed plate and "B" screws. It has been used and shows patina, discoloration, scratches, and other such wear as you would expect. The metal plate is secure and shows solder around it and (as is common with these) some points of detachment from the bands, including the center band fully detached from the plate. It is stamped "Arnold Brilhart" and "AL" on the bars that hold the screws, and the screws have the "B" shaped heads. These screws have been used and the center of the threads appear worn down somewhat, so when assembled with a reed and this mouthpiece they don't tighten down much before losing grip. As such, 2 additional screws are included and these tighten very securely, so you have both options of function and form with this ligature.
Mouthpiece: Brilhart Ebolin 5, serial 38472, from the Great Neck NY period circa 1943. This is a player's mouthpiece that at some point has been refaced to a .074" opening, the bite plate appears to have been repaired with newer white epoxy, and there appears to be a repair on the tip that was likely done when it was refaced. It plays nicely with a strong Sonny Stitt vibe! It's made a lot of music and shows signs of wear such as faint lettering, scratches, chips, and teeth marks. The shank is intact and is not cracked or repaired like so many of these are.
Reed: I've never seen one of these before! An original reed marked "brilhart" (lowercase b) and "2 1/2". It is in a plastic sleeve. The tip doesn't appear to have any cracks or waves, and I'm unsure whether it's been used.
Cap: A cream colored alto saxophone mouthpiece cap, unmarked, unsure of brand. No cracks, some scratches and discoloration.
This set will be securely packed and promptly shipped to its lucky new owner.
